Bazhang River originating from Fenqi Lake of Ali Mountain is the natural boundary between Chiayi City and Chiayi County. In October 1997, in order to plan the whole walking area long the river, Chiayi City Goverment chose Houzhang protecting dike section, the 11 hectare reclaimed land of the riverbed under the Junhui Bridgde, and established it as a Water Park. The plan was to establish the best recreational water park for the citizens using greening and recreational facilities according to the natural ecology of Bajhang River and local cultural features and relevance.
Currently, we already set up the softball field, baseball field, jogging / walking path around the area, bikeway, path for the handicapped, and planted flowers and trees of all seasons along the slops of the riverbank. On the wide and flat lawn, no matter in the morning, at afternoon or at night, the public has a variety of activities such as flying kites, playing remote control aircrafts, walking dogs, taking a walk, riding bikes and skateboard carts, roller skating, Yunji dancing, doing hand clapping, doing Taijiquan, golfing, croqueting, children learning how to walk and run. The various activities of the public already turned this area into the hottest spot for comprehensive activities.
This area connects nearby upper-river scenic spots and becomes a banding scenic area with the Mituo Temple, 228 Memorial Stone, Chiayi University, Lantan Reservoir, and Renyitan Reservoir. If you get off the South Second Express Way from the Dingliu Interchange, and go east to Ali Mountain Highway along Tai Line No.18, or go to the direction to Ali Mountain along Tai Line No.3, you will see many recreational spots such as Wufeng Temple, China Folk-Custom Village, and Chukou Tianchangdijiu. It is also the path into Fanlu Village, Ali Mountain Village, Zhongpu Village and Dapu Village. There are a lot of scenic spots in this area and the public can plan and take a wonder tour on weekends.
